Bringing the Outdoors In
Spring has sprung and the garden is full of color. After a long winter, it is refreshing to bring those colors in to expand the visual space and revive our spirits. Here are some ways to bring the outdoors in:
Mimic nature’s colors and textures
When selecting fabrics, look for textures of nature such as bark or plant patterns similar to the two living room chairs in the picture at right. Textures add interest and are a nice backdrop for florals, Ikats, stripes, or geometrics.
Keep the large pieces neutral
When large pieces are neutral, it allows for accent colors and wall décor that can be changed to reflect the different seasons. A room can be transformed from Winter to Spring simply by changing pillows or artwork.
Add interest with finishes such as iron, wood, glass, or slate It is important to maintain a good balance of finishes and not overpower a room with a single element. Hammered natural iron tables (in the photo above), as well as the glass and wood coffee table (above and left) were custom-designed and fabricated locally to add interest and airiness to the room.
