Sunnyvale Bathroom Remodeling Project Details

Every detail of this warm, contemporary primary bath was carefully considered by the homeowner, from the brushed nickel Emtek pocket door hardware and window symmetry to the feel of the room and the placement of the freestanding tub. Although not visible in the photos, the homeowner can relax in the tub and see through to the bedroom windows and the outdoor garden.

The project came to Hammerschmidt Construction after a previous remodel by another contractor. Although the original bathroom looked attractive, the built-in bathtub had not been installed correctly, which caused ongoing leaks and possible damage to the home. The homeowner came to Hammerschmidt for the redo.

The new design converted the built-in tub to a freestanding BluBathworks tub. The west wainscot wall, which was originally painted as an accent wall, was wrapped in Porcelanosa “Liston Oxford” tile. The tile has the look of real wood, adds warmth, and helps create a spa-like feel.

Recessed lighting now washes the wet wall and highlights the texture and color of the Porcelanosa “Green Glass” mosaic tile. Radiant heat was also installed under the large-format thin porcelain floor tile.

The bathroom design caught the eye of LUXE Linear Drain because two 48-inch stainless steel pattern grate drains were incorporated into the barrier-free, zero-threshold shower. With more than 100 other entries, Hammerschmidt was recognized as the winner of LUXE Linear Drains’ annual shower design photo contest.
