John Hammerschmidt

A third-generation Californian (and contractor), John grew up in the Central Valley with dreams of becoming a farmer. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in landscape construction and horticulture and then moved to the Bay Area. He sold irrigation systems to Napa Valley wineries and managed field operations for two landscaping firms (including his own) and construction companies. He also did a stint as Operations Manager at a computer networking firm. In 1996, he founded Hammerschmidt Construction, now Hammerschmidt Design + Build, to provide homeowners with superior service and project management. He holds Class A (Engineering) and Class B (General Contractor) California State Contractors’ licenses, is a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD), and a Certified Green Builder (CGB). John enjoys working with homeowners to design and build homes that are simultaneously functional, beautiful, energy-efficient, and easy to maintain. A long-time member of the Western Horticulture Society, John enjoys fruit and vegetable gardening and cooking whatever he grows.

Lynn Hammerschmidt, MA

A Palo Alto native, Lynn graduated from UC Berkeley and enjoyed a successful career as a marketing executive in four Bay Area medical start-up firms. She joined Hammerschmidt Construction in 1999 when the kids were little, so she was not on an airplane every week, and worked to establish the standard operating procedures for all aspects of the “Business of the Business.” Lynn enjoys assisting homeowners in optimizing their homes’ architectural style and functionality to achieve a high-end look without breaking the bank. She recently earned a master’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship from Pepperdine University.

Office Manager

Joel Thorson

Joel joined Hammerschmidt Construction in 2009 and wears many hats in the company. He is a long-term resident of Santa Clara County. He brings a 25+ year career in real estate, contract administration, customer service, project management, and bookkeeping to our team to keep the office running efficiently.

Project Manager

Marvin Flor

Marvin was born in El Salvador and “Came to this beautiful country” at age 5. He married his high school sweetheart. We met Marvin while he was working for his uncle on one of our projects. He joined the Hammerschmidt Team in 2019 as a Project Manager and considers it a privilege to be part of the team and to manage our customers’ projects.

Design Manager

Eduardo Rodriguez

Eduardo was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, where, as he puts it, “traditional native customs are mixed with French and Spanish cultures, enriching in both ways, theirs and ours; architecturally, ethnically and traditionally.” He graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering and worked for a couple of years before obtaining a master’s degree in economics. He defines himself as a philosopher as he is continually searching for knowledge. Philosopher, which comes from the Greek words Philos (love) and Sophia (knowledge), which translates to the “love of knowledge.” He has studied Interior Design, Sociology, and Psychology for early childhood education.

Eduardo’s past IT employers include Creative Labs, Inc., S-MOS Systems, Computer Curriculum Corporation, Contour Software, ALZA Pharmaceuticals, and Johnson & Johnson. He also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Guidepost Montessori School.

As our Design Manager, Eduardo considers the whole team his mentor and inspiration. He feels he has acquired profound knowledge about the design-build process in remodeling and is thankful and proud to be part of the Hammerschmidt team.

Josue Martinez

Born in Honduras, Josue loves soccer, music, and many outdoor activities. He loves learning and growing in the field of remodeling. He started as our driver and worked his way up to Remodeling Foreman. “The best thing about working for Hammerschmidt Construction is how we treat each other. There is always respect and a very positive attitude.

Mario Zamora

Born in the US and raised in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico, Mario began his career in construction as a Carpenter in 2003 and joined our team as a Remodeling Foreman in 2019. He takes pride in his work and seeks to improve his skills continually. Mario appreciates working with fellow employees, subcontractors, and suppliers to complete our clients’ projects on time, and he goes above and beyond to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Daniel Martinez

Daniel was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was studying for a career in sports training when he moved to the United States four years ago. He joined the Hammerschmidt team in 2023  as a Remodeling Assistant and appreciates learning new skills, especially electrical and plumbing.  In his free time, he likes to play soccer and listen to relaxing music.

Osman Martinez

Born and raised in Honduras, Daniel began his remodeling career as a Carpenter in 2019. He joined Hammerschmidt Construction in 2022 as a Remodeling Assistant and is proud to work for a company that offers opportunities to progress for its employees. He strives to consistently meet company expectations and help the company ensure we meet our clients’ expectations.

Chief Office Dog (COD)

Athena

She is the most brilliant Chief Office Dog (COD). Always happy, she wags her tail whenever someone enters the office, greeting everyone with a cheerful “woof-morning!”

As a self-motivated team player, she is also environmentally conscious. She carpools to work daily with the Office Manager (OM) to ensure their commute is enjoyable.
